TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS: AN ORGANIZATIONAL VIEW ON THE EGO STATES OF EMPLOYEES

Transactional Analysis: An organizational view on the ego states of employees

The article ‘Transactional Analysis: An organizational view on the ego states of employees’ is an extract from the project; “A study on the ego states of employees at Keltron Component Complex, Kannur based on Transactional Analysis and Job Performance” by me views the ego states and its impact on job performance in a unique way. The primary objective of the project is to find out the relationship of ego stats of employees and their performance on the job. Performance on the job has been classified into high performance and low performance. A formal questionnaire is structured to find out the relationship between ego sates and job performance and it is found that the employees having high ego states performs well on the job. Analysis on the demographic characteristics gives us unique information.

  • It is amazing that the 100% of the men from the age group of 35-50 and women from the age group of above 50 agree that they are satisfied with the job.
  • Employees from rural and semi-urban area perform well on the job and majority of the employees agree that they have truest and confidence in their co-workers.
  • The employees who do not have children from all the areas strongly agree that they are punctual at work and employees have 2 or 3 children are not punctual.
  • Women employees are good enough in providing feedback than male employees and male employees are more capable to accomplish the task within a specific time.
  • Men and women from semi urban area are easier to adjust with the changing situations in the work place.
  • It is found that employees from urban area are more comfortable with the team members.
  • It is found that women employees believe that they can motivate others and employees from rural area, irrespective of their gender believe the same.

It is advisable that the employees should maintain a balanced ego states to enjoy work as well as life.  Transactional Analysis can be used as a tool to develop the employees to mold their personality and ultimately it will contribute a lot to their job so that they can have more prosperity in work as well as to lead a happy life.

COMMUNICATION BARRIERS AND WORKPLACE RELATIONS

COMMUNICATION BARRIERS AND WORKPLACE RELATIONS

Communication has great relevance in this modern business environment, especially when it comes to multicultural aspects. Ask any manager, the reason why his decision went wrong, he would instantly say ‘communication gap’. Many misunderstandings and differences come between the people when they do not communicate each other in an appropriate manner in the organization. Sometimes it can affect the personal relations and personal life. The wrong interpretations and understandings in communication should not be carried out of the work place.

Unintentional factors can cause communication gap. Even in oral or written communication the message can take a twist from the intended if the sender is unable to use the right language.  If possible the sender should ensure the effectiveness of the interaction before ending the communication. We can’t avoid communication, but we can avoid constraints. Understand the constraints which occur in our day-to-day interaction and try to avoid it.

SIMPLE LANGUAGE

The first constraint occurs due to the way message has been tailored. The best way to avoid this problem is to use simple language. The response desired should be pointed out clearly and conveys the message.

UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENTS

The audience requirement and the levels of knowledge possessed by the audience have to be carefully analyzed before delivering the message. The language used by various managements (top-level management, middle level management and bottom level management) in the organization should be different when they have cross-sectional interaction.  The language formulation should be associated with the objectives of the organization.

LIMIT THE WORDS

It is the habit of the people, mostly in Indian contest; I can say, people in the organization used to dump with words in the interaction and confuse with information overload. It is felt that the more one explains in the message, clarity becomes visible. At the same time too much words and actions can cause confusion and misunderstanding in the receiver’s mind. Better use limited and clear words and actions in the language to avoid such problems.

VALUE THE TIME

Priorities the content of the interaction is a simple way to value time. I often write that time is the most precious and valuable thing on earth. Remember, the pressure on employees should be avoided when the activities are coordinated in a prioritized manner.

EMOTIONS

Don’t misunderstand, here emotions equal to nonverbal communication. It can actually cause difference in the way it has been send and received. Especially, not to offend anyone, let me tell you there is huge difference in the nonverbal aspects of the people of east and west. It is quiet common among the linguistic barriers. The best way to solve this barrier is to understand other people and accept them as they are. Help each other to know better.

PRE-DETERMINATION

Avoid all kinds of pre-determination and prejudice in our interaction. These pre-determination becomes more dangerous when the receiver completely avoid the message and its reliability. Constant interaction and learning the other person is the only way to avoid this dangerous constraint from the communication.

As a conclusion I would like to write, the barriers of communication can occur at any time. The awareness, analysis and acceptance can avoid problems. When barriers removed, there is a smooth way paved for effective communication and best, let me repeat “best” relation.

FIND TIME TO DO YOUR FAVORITES

We are living in a busy atmosphere and most of us are having a busy schedule. Due to this busy schedule we miss many things and tend to blame, that we do not have enough time.  This approach becomes more critical when we leave our basic responsibilities and requirements. We have solution for all these troubles if we spend some time carefully.

  • Create a list of activities that has to be accomplished. If your circumstances does not permit just have a calculation of the activities in your mind.
  • Divide your actions into different categories namely emergency or critical, need, leisure and unimportant or minor. It depends upon who you are and what you want to do.
  • Find out the stumbling blocks which prevent you to accomplish your task at the specific time and find an appropriate way to solve the issue.

Find time to do everything and find happiness in whatever we do. But let it be a fruitful one. Fight against procrastination and tactically manage the people who try to grab our vital hours.  Have a plan for our whole day and spend the time carefully. Time once lost is lost forever and it is not possible to get back even a minute. Remember one thing; everybody on earth shares an equal amount of time, i.e. 24 hours.  Jests take a day to analyze the way we spend our time and have a calculation to find out how much time we spend effectively and efficiently. Draw an approximate figure for our whole year based on the calculation. We will astonish to see the result! Have a plan for your whole day and go ahead.  Wish you success.

THINK POSITIVELY.

Shape your fate and decide your destiny by your thoughts and think high to rise. Life is a battle and people will not see how fast you won; the man who wins is the man who thinks he can. The art of success starts with our thoughts which become our action. Have better control on our thoughts and certainly our mind starts to obey our commands. Our mind is nothing more than a bundle of thoughts. Believe we have the power to mold our thoughts, we automatically also have the power to control our destiny. Thus our thoughts are the most prime and powerful source of our success.

Believe that you will succeed and believe it firmly. Focus on your aim and search for opportunity. You will then do whatever is suitable to accomplish your goal. Your goal should also be definite, specific and time bounded. Preserve strong mental attitude of risk taking, frankness, and sincerity. Be sincere to your life and respect the life. Think best result in your work and focus on that and our mind unconsciously and automatically direct to the end, i.e. ‘success.’ If your desire is weak and efforts are erratic, your achievements will be slight and fleeting. Follow your dream whole heartedly and reap the best result. No one in this earth can stop you from reaping success. Remember every useful thing on earth came out after a long struggle and none on earth ask you how many times you failed or how much time you took to chase your dream. End is more relevant.

MANAGING EXPECTATION; AN ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT TO SUCCESS.

Stating expectations, or what someone wants accomplished, is an essential ingredient for success in any human life. They can focus on the relevant matters and tactics that will lead them in the direction of success. It must be outlined through effective communication. Everyone in this world has an expectation and that works as a catalyst for growth.

Understanding expectation in the organizational contest has great relevance in this modern cut throat business environment. In organizational contest it is clearly linked with responsibility and accountability. It also describes what they will be evaluated on at set points during the work process.

Let us think about expectation from two aspects, i.e. management and employees. Whoever in the organization, communicating the expectation should be open and have crystal clear focuses on what they expect. Management should not have a blind assumption that without proper communication the staff will “just get” the expectation and work to achieve that. Focus in task can be accomplished if the expectation of the company is clearly stated to the staff. Best way to tackle this issue is to draw end result and list down the actions to accomplish it. Then freely communicate with the staff.

In this similar way the employees in the organization has expectation about the organization and it can be linked with their personal goals. It will be directed by their social, economical, cultural and educational outlooks. If the manager doesn’t know what are the expectations of the employees working under him, just initiate the discussion and have better understanding of the expectations of the employees. Help them to manage and coordinate their expectation.

It will be extremely useful when working with staff, teams and colleagues. Doing so provides structure and a basis on which to work effectively together, in the same direction and towards the same goal: success.
